Iran's Guardian Council says the voter turnout for the
presidential election was more than 85 percent,
          describing people's participation as ‘unprecedented'.
“More than 85 percent of the 46.2 million eligible voters
took part in the country's 10th presidential election,”
said Abbas A u Kadkhodaei, a spokesman for the
Guardian Council, the body supervising Iran's elections.
He added that the figure excluded the turnout in polling
          stations outside Iran.
No official result of the election has been announced yet
but preliminary results show that Iran's incumbent
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has won more than
64 percent of votes, beating his main rival Mir-Hossein
Mousavi, who has complained of voting irregularities.
According to reports from the Election Commission Headquarters, the latest statistics announced by the Iranian
electoral officials show Mousavi, who had earlier claimed victory with 54 percent of the votes, has so far gained
          32.25 percent of the votes.
More than 38 million (98 percent) of the ballots have so far been counted, according to latest reports.
Former IRGC Commander, Mohsen Rezaei, won 2.07 percent of the votes and two-time parliament (Majlis)
speaker Mehdi Karroubi (1 989-1992 and 2000-2004) grabbed 0.88 percent.
Mousavi complained of irregularities in the election, including a shortage of ballot papers and attacks on his
          campaign offices.
Ahmadinejad's campaign manager Mojtaba Samareh Hashemi, however, dismissed Mousavi's remarks.
“According to the votes counted so far, the distance between Ahmadinejad and his rivals is so great that any
doubts cast on this victory will be treated as a joke by the public,” he was quoted as saying by Fars news
          agency.
