HRANA - On Monday, May 31, 2010, the security forces of the city of Qazvin arrested Mr.
Farhad Fathi, handcuffed and blindfolded him and took him to an undisclosed location. Mr.
Fathi is a student activist and the director of a reformist student group.
According to Daneshjoo News Agency, security forces followed Mr. Fathi as he left the campus
of Qazvin International University and arrested him at a store near his house. Mr. Fathi was
charged with distributing a flyer and asking people to sign a petition in support of a detained
university professor by the name of Mr. Hasan Raisian. In December 2009 Mr.Fathi along with
two other student activists, Mr. Payam heydar-Qazvini and Mr. Saeed Sakakian, were detained
for disturbing the peace and were held by the security forces of Qazvin for a few days.
Some believe that the Islamic Republic is trying to scare students as the first anniversary of the
June 12, 2009 Iranian presidential election looms.
