Iran following up on post-vote complaints
Mon, 07 Sep 2009 23:18:39 GMT
Iranian authorities are investigating public complaints regarding the post-election unrest and the
charges of mistreatment of detainees in detention centers.
An Iranian lawmaker, Farhad Tajari, called on President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to present his
evidence to a parliamentary committee tasked with probing the death and detention of those
arrested in the post-election violence.
The comments came after President Ahmadinejad said during a Sunday press conference that he
has “evidence and reasons” to believe that “some elements infiltrated in disciplinary units” to
conduct the mistreatments.
Tajari, a member of the committee, told Mehr news agency that Majlis is ready to examine the
president's documents in this regard.
The lawmaker also added that the committee members and Tehran's recently appointed
Prosecutor Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi held a meeting over the latest status of the post-election
detainees.
The two sides agreed on “accurate implementation of law and the trial” of those charged with
involvement in the post-election unrests, he said.
Moreover, Tajari noted that the ways for preparing the ground for the release of some detainees
such as students and instructors have been discussed.
