IRAN: OVER 900 EXECUTIONS ANNOUNCED IN FIVE MONTHS
RECOMMENCED ACTIONS

2) This document is being issued in the present form to provide sections and co-groups with an update on the situation in [ran which may be used to answer inquiries and requests for up to date material from the media or the public.
3) Iran is one of seven “Category A” countries featured in Ai’s worldwide campaign against the death penalty this year. A shortened version of the
– attached document will form the basis for a section on Iran in campaign
circular no.2B (AI Index: ACT 51/26/89) , to be issued at the end of June. Recommended actions for sections and groups will be included in that circular and will involve appeals to the Iranian authorities to stop the current wave of executions for non-political offences. These recommended actions are designed to be carried out during phase two of the campaign
(September~December) , but sections able to start doing them earlier should do so.
