Iran: Rezaii urges trial of officers violating rules in
          post-election unrest
TEHRAN, Aug. 2 ( Mehr News Agency ) — The Expediency Council Secretary, Mohsen Rezaii,
called on Sunday for the prosecution of police officers and other persons who violated
regulations in dealing with protesters and detainees following the post-election incidents.
‘Two groups caused the recent incidents which inflicted serious damage to the people and
the Islamic establishment; rioters were among the first group,” and the second group included
police officers who violated regulations and certain persons who made decisions on their
own, Rezaii stated in a letter to Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi.
Rezaii wrote the letter a day after the first court trial of detainees in post-election unrest was
          held.

One of several protesters, known to date, who died while in custody
Mohsen Ruholamini, whose father was a senior advisor to conservative politician Mohsen
Rezai, was reportedly arrested during a July 9 protest against Ahmadinejad. His family was
informed on July 21st that he had died.
A letter, written by Hossein Alaei the former head of Guard Corps Joint Staff, was published
on some reformist websites. In this letter, it has been stressed that “Mohsen Ruholamini was
killed under torture.” Hossein Alaei quotes Mohsen's father that “At forensic medical center it
was determined that my child has been severely beaten and injured after he was arrested.
When I saw his body I found out that they had smashed his mouth. The location of his death
was erased in his medical document. It was determined that he was not given any blood
after being injured until his blood was infected, then he had an intense fever of above 40 C
following which he was affected with meningitis. They transferred him as an incognito to

the rioters' cases and therefore a second court should be held simultaneously to try the
second group of violators, otherwise justice is not administered and peace may not be
          restored in the society.
Rezaii also said the second court should also put on trial persons who attacked students at
