The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center
The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) is an independent, non-profit and strictly non-partisan organization located in New Haven, Connecticut that promotes human rights and the rule of law in Iran by documenting and reporting on human rights abuses that are ignored, supported, and often perpetuated by the Iranian government. IHRDC’s in-depth reports and legal analysis are published in Persian and English and are disseminated world-wide. IHRDC focuses on allegations of the most serious violations of human rights, such as murder, torture, unlawful imprisonment, enforced disappearance, sexual violence, and persecution on political, religious or gender grounds.
Available Position
The Executive Administrator assists with general administrative duties, grant administration, fundraising and development, administration of financial matters, and provides support to the Executive Director on all other matters. The Executive Administrator reports to the Executive Director. The position is available immediately. Salary offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
The Executive Administrator will be responsible for the following:
Grant Administration
- Assist with managing budget processes, including single and multi-year grant budgets
- Assist with timely grant reporting requirements and drafting progress reports for Grantors
- Maintain up-to-date files with relevant documents for each grant program
Administrative Duties
- Manage IHRDC insurance programs and 401k plan
- Manage subscriptions held by IHRDC
- Prepare documents for new employees
- Maintain office files
- Maintain organization’s contact list
- Facilitate logistics for new interns and volunteers
- Record the value of services donated by interns and volunteers
- Provide administrative support for Board meetings, including organizing attendance, assembling background packets, drafting board minutes and maintaining Board meeting files, working with the Board Chair as necessary to perform the aforementioned tasks
- Maintain and update organization policies and procedures manual and other organizational documents
- Maintain the organization’s calendar
- Purchase software, hardware, equipment, furniture, supplies, and stationary as requested
- Send out occasional bulk mailings
- Serve as primary contact with building management for lease and maintenance issues
- Act as receptionist and answer telephone for the organization during business hours
- Perform support tasks for the Executive Director as requested for the smooth functioning of the organization
- Liaise with financial accounting firm in order to oversee day-to-day transactions of the organization and facilitate monthly closing and financial statements
- Assist with managing revenue process from various funding sources, including but not limited to State and other Government agencies, private foundations, individual and corporate donors
- Review of IHRDC general info email inbox to monitor for media requests, information requests and other important communications to flag to the Executive Director
Fundraising and Development Duties
- Manage donor databases
- Facilitate relationships with individual donors, including drafting of thank you messages
- Coordinate with financial accounting firm regarding donations and grants
- Assist with organizing and coordinating fundraising events
- Measure impact of fundraising efforts
- Research potential donors and funding opportunities
- Draft letters of inquiry, grant proposals, appeal letters, web postings and news releases
- Assist in managing IHRDC’s social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter, Telegram and Instagram
- Monitor and update charity and nonprofit websites with IHRDC profiles
- Collect, develop and organize data regarding outputs, outcomes, and impacts of IHRDC activities, including those set out by grant Monitoring and Evaluation plans
- Perform additional tasks as determined by the Executive Director
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Two (2) or more years of relevant experience
- Strong MS Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Ability to analyze and report on complex data in an easily digestible format to present to Executive Director
- Ability to manage and make progress on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Ability to work with multiple grant budgets, both single year and multi-year plans

- Familiarity with Iranian current events and international human rights conventions including the ICCPR and Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Internship Opportunity
The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in New Haven, Connecticut. The Center was founded in 2004 by a group of human rights scholars, activists, and historians to document the patterns of human rights abuse in Iran and to promote accountability, a culture of human rights and the rule of law in Iran.
IHRDC currently has two basic programs: (1) a human rights investigation, analysis and reporting program, and (2) an extensive document database (the Aadel Collection) that is available to persons in Iran and worldwide on the Center’s website at www.iranhrdc.org.
Internships: The IHRDC invites applications from law school students seeking internships. Interns can expect to perform the following:
a) legal research in Iranian law and international human rights law;
b) factual research on human rights topics including murder, torture, gender-related violence, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings;
c) drafting of documents relating to human rights violations;
d) gathering, categorizing and compiling human rights-related documents issued by governments, media, and nongovernmental organizations; and
e) assistance in the development of the IHRDC’s human rights database
IHRDC also invites applications from university and post-graduate students who have the following skills:
a) knowledge of social media and social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Balatarin)
b) ability to edit video footage
c) background in graphic design
d) web design knowledge (e.g. ability to layout HTML text, etc)

Volunteers and Interns
IHRDC welcomes the assistance of volunteers and interns with a variety of skill sets. Our volunteers include students eager to learn skills that will apply to their future professions, young professionals looking to use their extra time to promote human rights, and individuals using what they have learned over many years to assist a growing organization. Volunteers and interns will be expected to work at least 10-20 hours per week under the direction of the Executive Director.
Farsi-literate Volunteers and Interns: IHRDC particularly welcomes volunteers and interns with the ability to read Farsi.
Development Volunteers and Interns: Candidates should have an interest in fundraising, program development, and non-profit management. Experience working for a non-profit in one of these capacities is highly desirable but not necessary.
Research Volunteers and Interns: IHRDC’s internship program exposes law and university students to international human rights law and practice as well as the human rights situation in Iran. Applicants should email their resume and a cover letter to jobs@iranhrdc.org.
