Ten inmates at Orumiyeh prison convicted on drug related offenses at risk of imminent execution

(30 May 2012) – According to a local source in touch with the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC), ten prisoners on death row for drug related offenses have been transferred to the “quarantine ward” in Orumiyeh prison—the ward in which death row inmates are typically sent prior to execution—in preparation for execution tomorrow morning.

Seven of these ten prisoners convicted for drug related offenses were transferred from ward 15 to the quarantine ward this morning, Wednesday, May 30, 2012. The names of these prisoners are reportedly as follows:

1)      Nahad Nuraldini;

2)      Sayyad Ahmadpour;

3)      Safar Pakizehrou;

4)      Haji Pajouhesh;

5)      Allahverdi Ahmadpour;

6)      Abdolhamid Moradi;

AND

7)      Khosro Darvishi.

Three other prisoners on death row, identified by the local source as Omran Gilani, Manouchehr Davoudi and Hashem Jahangirzadeh, were also transferred to the quarantine ward, presumably for the implementation of their execution sentences tomorrow morning. These three prisoners were previously harshly beaten by the special guard forces in the prison on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Up until their transfer to the quarantine ward, Gilani, Davoudi and Jahangirzadeh were reportedly kept in solitary confinement in handcuffs and shackles.
