Opposition leaders trial ‘unhelpful'
Wed, l2Aug 2009 12:02:40 CMI
Amid calls for the arrest and prosecution of opposition
leaders, an advisor to leading opposition figure
Mir-Hossein Mousavi says such comments will only
deepen the dMde.
Alireza Hosseini-Beheshti, a Mousavi aide, on Tuesday
questioned the purpose behind remarks carried by
individuals who are not associated with the Judiciary.
“Are the people who discuss the issue (of prosecution)
spokespersons for the judiciary?' Beheslti was quoted
by the Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) as saying.
His remarks came after a senior official with the Islamic
Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) urged Iranian
authorities to try two defeated presidential candidates, Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, and former president
Seyyed Mohammad Khatami for the unrest that followed the June 12 election.
President Ahmadinejad was re-elected by a huge margin in the poll but the opposition cried foul over the results
and alleged fraud in the election process.
The opposition to the poll, demonstrated in widespread protests, caused the country go through a rough patch.
‘The question is who were the main plotters and agents of this coup. What is the role of Khatami, Mousavi and
Karroubi in this coup?' Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, head of the IRGC's political bureau, wrote in an article
in the weekly IRGC journal.
Beheshti reacted to the remarks by saying that such perspective on the issues that the establishment deals with
in the aftermath of the vote would be unhelpful.

Prosecution to the opposition leaders are the best solution to the present political problem in the country
because they are the roots of the problem, the street protesters were only a tools used by the
opposition to destabilized Iran Republic.

Well, do you expect him to say anything else? More effective than a trial would be to totally discredit him,
though.
