For the Bahá'Is
The research office of the Kayhan Newspaper
[ In this letter, Mr. Yüsuf Subb-Ravan responds to the open letter of the Bahá'I community of
Iran to the president of the country in two sections. The first section is under the heading “In
response to the [ Bahá'Is] pretensions of being oppressed and of having served the country”. He
explains that Bahá'Is had complete freedom during the PdhlavI era and only served their own
purpose. He names some individuals in key governmental positions during the PahiavI era,
such as AmIr ‘Abbás Huvaydá, who he introduces as Bahá'Is. He alleges that Dr. ‘All-
Mubammad Varqa, the then head of the faculty of geography in the teacher training institute,
escaped Iran with an unpaid tax bill of ninety million tumáns. He also names Dr. Iraj Ayrnan,
among many other Bahá'ls, who used their academic positions for their own benefit and that of
the Bahá'l Faith.
The second section is under the heading “Issues regarding the Bahá'i beliefs in the unity of
God, the truth of all His messengers and their books, belief in life after death and obedience to
the government, raised in page four of the open letter”. Here Mr. Subb-Raván asks about the
major religious traditions to which the Bahá'I Faith belongs. He considers the Bahá'l Writings
as having been derived from the Qur'an and other Islamic books but conveying a corrupted
sense of the original meanings. A few examples have been given.]
