          T. Afsar (Iran), commenting on charges macic ‘ny some speakers in the
          discussion regarding -the situation in Iran, said these were without any foundation.
          The charges made by the represen -tative of the Baha 'i International Community were
          incorrec-t. The claim -tha-t there were 300,000 D ha'is in Iran was exaggerated.
          The figure i-ras in. fact far below this number. -
          As he had s-tated, the rights of religious minorities wore enshrined in the
          Iranian Constitution The Government and the religious majorit: group acted with
          eauity and justice to ards all religious minorities which had the same rigirts and
          duties as all other citizens under the Coi stitution .
          Allegations of arrests, executions and ciisappearanr'cs were
          ascerted, Detentions were made 12u-t only on the basis of.the decisions
          tribunals which functioned with in duly e etabli shed procedures, drawing
          principle of merc:T of Islam .
          JUcbar Kherad (.sghanistan) said human i ights rere respected fully in his
          couxrtry. His Government was deeply attached to -the United Nations Declaration .of
          Human Rights and co—operated with international bodies and instruments for the
          promotion of measures to protect the individual from brutal violations of human
          rights.
