          Having carefully examined the report of the Secretary—General 79/ and
          the relevant sections in the report on summary or arbitrary executions, 80/
          Encouraged by the report of the Secretary—General 81/ in which he announces
          a mission of his representative to the Islatnic Republic of' Iran, providing an
          opportunity to clarify further the situation of human rights in that country,
          1. Exeresses its profound concern at the continuing grave violations of
          human rights and ‘undamental freedoms in the Islamic Republic of Iran as reflected
          in the report of IIe Secretary—General, and particularly at the evidence of
          summary and arbitrary executions, torture, detention without trial, religious
          intolerance and persecution, in particular of the Baha'is, and the lack of an
          independent judiciary and other recognized safeguards for a fair trial;
          2. Urges once more the covernment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a
          Sbate party to the Internatiori J. Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to
          respect and ensure to all individuals within Its territory and subject to its
          jurisdiction the rights recognized in that Covenant;
          3. Recuesta the Secretary—General or his representative to continue direct
          contacts with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the grave human .
          rights sltuatjon prevailing in that country, including the situation of the
          Baha'is; . .
          4. Recuests also the Secretary—General or his representative to submit
          to the C isn on Human Rights at its fortieth session a co prehensjve report
          on the direct contacts and the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic
          of Iran including conclusions and suggestions as regards the respect for human
          rights and fundamental ffleedomz in that country; . ,
          5. Ee uests once more the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to
          extend its co—operation to the Secretary—General or his representative;
          6. Decides to continue its consideration of the human rights situation in

          1985/39. Human rights situation in the Islamic Reoublic of Iran 110/
          The Cornmissjo on Human
          Guided by the principles embodied in the Cnarter of the United Nations,
          IIe Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Internationa l Covenants on
          Human Rights,
          Reaffirmj that all Member States have an obligation to promote and
          protect human rights and fundamental freedoms and to fulfil the obligations
          they have undertaken under the various international instruments in this field,
          Recalling its resolutions 1982/27 of ].1 March 1982 and 1983/34 of
          8 March 1963,
          . Recalling in particular its resolution 1984/54 of 14 March 1984, in which
          the Commission expressed deep concern at the continuing serious violations of
          human rights and fundamental freedoms in th Is1ami. Republic of Iran as
          reflected in the report -of the Secretary—General, 111/ and particularly at the
          evidence of summary and arbitrary executions, torture, detention without trial,
          religious intolerance and persecution, in particular of the Baha'is, and the
          lack of an independent judiciary and other recognized safeguards for a fair
          trial, and requested the appointment of a special representative, .
          Nindtul of resolutions 1983/14 of 5 September 1983 and 1984/14 of
          29 August 1984 of the Sub—Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and
          . Protection of Minorities, in which the Sub—Commissior. expressed alarm at reports
          of continuing gross violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the
          Isla ic Republic of Iran,
          Taking note of relevant sections in the report of the Special Rapporteur
          on summary or arbitrary executions, 112/
          . Welcoming the appointment of Mr. Andr s Aguilar as Special Representative
          of the Commission with a mandate to establish contacts with the Government of
          the Islamic Republic of Iran and to make a thorough study of the human rights
          situation in that country in accordance with Commission resolution 1984154,
          Noting that the tIme available to the Special preser.tatjve did nQt parmit
          him to make tue thorough study requested by the Commission,
          Regretting that the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has not yet
          extended its co—operation to the Commission on Human Rights and its
          Special Representative, .
